tearing and ripping and gluing paper with my hands

about

Hey, I’m Julia. I like to play with paper and type on the computer.

My Portuguese-Italian grandmother owned an antique store called ‘Bugigangas,‘ which translates to “odds and ends” – or “useless things” as she would call it. Through her, I developed a love for the treasure hunt.

While my grandmother had a fondness for encyclopedias and antique furniture, I found paper.

I like to hunt for glossy bits hidden in outdated nature books and magazines left for the recycling bin and I like ripping up pieces of paper and gluing them back together with unlikely friends.

I’ve read that the human brain has a tendency to put images into nice and neat packages. I like to stress and stretch that default setting a bit by hanging on to uneven tears, rips, and letting off-centered creations live a long independent life of never getting properly centered.

I like knowing that even a completed collage can be ripped up and reassembled at any time.

And I intend to write about. That, along with any other observations that contribute to the weird drive I have to rip up and glue pieces of paper together.
